Robert Pierosh

Biography

Robert Pierosh is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans photography, screen printing, video, and creative writing, all unified by a strong commitment to storytelling. His work often centers on portraiture and the human figure, exploring themes of identity, memory, masculinity, sexuality, and aging through a contemporary art lens. Early in his career, Robert used himself as a subject in layered, manually manipulated darkroom prints that deconstructed and reassembled narrative and self-perception.

His recent projects blend portraiture, large-scale photography, video art, and writing—including short fiction, essays, and dramatic comedy—often laced with dark humor and emotional depth. In May 2025, his micro-memoir A Thief for Grandma was published in The New York Times as part of the Modern Love column’s Tiny Love Stories series.

Education

Robert earned his formal art education from the University of Delaware, where he focused on photography. He has continued to develop his storytelling skills by completing two artist residencies at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. These residencies were in their Photography and Video program as well as their MFA Social Documentary Film program, gaining new insights and techniques that have influenced his evolving body of work.

Career

In addition to his accomplished career as an artist, Robert is also a veteran creative director in the NYC advertising industry. He has led the creative and user experience design for various international brands across industries including automotive, technology, travel, luxury goods, and consumer products.

Robert’s work has been exhibited internationally and is included in private collections worldwide. His approach to art is fueled by an ongoing curiosity about identity, memory, and human connection.
